Communication with the Coven

Regarding initiating dialogue, e-mail is the preferred medium. Within that context, I would like to make a few simple requests:
1.Please take a moment to check your spelling, e-mail software will do most of it for you, though you might have to add in to the dictionary the odd word or two it does not recognise, like Cthulhu!
Everyone feels their hackles rise a little, when someone spells their name wrong, and that is not the best first impression to give someone, I’m sure you will agree?

2.When you write an e-mail, please refer to yourself with a capital ‘I’. We are on a path that aims to develop ourselves into higher beings, let us not denigrate that by referring to ourselves as ‘i’.

3.When you first write to us, please give a brief outline [or detailed if you are an inspired scribbler!] of the magical path you have been walking up until now.
It doesn’t matter if you are just making your first enquiries about Paganism, or if you have been in other groups, or even if you have been working as a solo for many years, or something else entirely. It is just so we can get an idea of who you are, and what you are looking for, from us?

4.By the same token, please also take a few moments to draw up a list of what you have read. [Title and Author will suffice.] These do not have to be restricted to what are generally considered Pagan titles, just all the books that you feel have impacted on your life in a way that has brought you towards who you are now.
This will also paint a much clearer picture of who you are and where your interests lie. I’m not saying that the best read person makes the best magician, don’t get me wrong- just that if all your titles are on Ancient Egypt, Deciphering Hieroglyphs and Pyramid Magic for example, then I will be getting the clear impression that you resonate with the Egyptian Pantheon!

Please copy and paste any documents [booklist or magical CV] into the body of the e-mail. This procedure only takes fractionally longer but is good anti virus policy.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Why Cthulhu?

Maybe you have never even heard of Cthulhu [pronounced ker-thoo-loo] and you’ve clicked on this site because it looks a bit like a Welsh word and you’re into the Celtic mysteries?!! Well it’s nothing to do with that, though the coven is not averse to working in the Celtic tradition on occasion. If you want to know who Cthulhu is, read H.P.Lovecraft. Essentially Cthulhu is a sea God/Monster [that is a matter of perspective I guess!] that lives hidden in the unexplored depths. Therein lies the key to what the coven is about. Aside from the fact that we are based in Brighton, by the sea, and thus tend to feel a resonance with all things mythical and magical that are connected to the sea, we view Cthulhu as a figure that represents our developing magical selves. On the left hand path one explores many aspects of their inner selves, [subjective universe], as well as their take on the objective universe around them. Some areas of exploration are previously unexamined, and some can be hidden very deep, may even look a bit scary on first discovery. This is why we often use terms like ‘Occult’ [hidden, secret] and ‘The Mysteries’ in Paganism. But like Cthulhu, when our true selves rise to the surface, we are a very powerful creature!
